KSEF to KEVB

Post by 16thScooter » Tue Jun 27, 2017 8:48 pm

June 27th, 1900.

Flight Plan:
N1975 Cessna 172M

T/O 1900 from KSEF (Sebring) to KEVB (New Smyrna Beach).

Fuel 26 gal L/R

AGL 2000 (Planned)
KNOTS 80 on climb out, 100 cruise.

Took off from Sebring with unrestricted visibility, broken. Possible building storms. METAR Normal.

25 miles South of Orlando we hit a ceiling of 1300 feet with fog down to 500. Descended to 1000 AGL and flew into severe thunderstorms and turbulence. Cleared 5 miles North of Orlando and climbed to 2000 AGL. 10 out from New Smyrna, descended to 1300 and entered approach pattern. Full stop, gassed up, and secured airplane.

Flight Time: 1.3

Maintenance: Plugs need to be changed and weak battery.

It was fun flight and hitting a lot of chop was challenging. Not bad for our first flight. We are going to make our way to Stafford, VA and plan follow on flights from there.

Real Life: We would not have overflown Orlando Intl and would have flown more easterly and then north or more westerly and came across and stayed on UNICOM through Sanford, Fl. The flight plan was VOR to VOR and we could have been in comms with regional but this was an intro flight.
