Sunday DCS WW2 Mission

Post by Cyborg » Sat Feb 16, 2019 4:02 pm

I'm finishing up on my first try at mission building. I'll upload the mission file to the DCS Normandy TS file browser once I finish up testing. Note that I'm on call this week so depending on how things go I may or may not be online tomorrow morning.

8 Human P-51 slots are available. This is a Normandy mission.

Simple bomber escort. All human pilots are to take off from Ford Airfield and climbout to the west. All flights will perform a slow climbing orbit at steerponit 2 until angels 15. Proceed to steerpoint 3 while continuing to climb. The goal is to get as close to angels 25 as you can at steer 3. We all have drop tanks so fuel should not be a concern.

We will have plenty of time to climb and group up before we meet the bombers. Once we get to steer 3 we will locate and join up with the B-17 flights. There are 20 bombers in total.

Our orders are to stay feet wet and do not get into the flak at the bomber target. Shoot down any enemy fighters that attack the bombers and then escort them home after they drop their bombs.

You may want to know how to drop your wing tanks. I used up all the fuel in mine in testing at about 1/3 of the way to target. Also, I've found that you can keep the engine running past green on the climb out for a good while as long as speed is kept around 200 MPH. Just keep all temperatures in the green and the engine will be fine. Bringing prop speed and manifold pressure back into green when temps start to rise cools it back down fairly quickly.
