SA17 Without Harms

Post by Cyborg » Fri Apr 28, 2017 10:33 pm

I've been trying to get used to the Israel theater and the lack of harms and targeting pod to use against the sams is making it impossible. There are multiple SA17's all along the FLOT and I haven't been able to even come close to killing one.

Does anybody have any advice on tactics to evade/engage SA17s with CBU's?
I've tried coming in at 300 feet but the flat terrain makes that not very effective. I'v tried beaming the missiles which works at longer ranges but is ineffective at medium and closer. I have no intel on their position so that is complicating things even further.

I'm thinking it may come down to having 4 human pilots doing a true wild weasel mission with one person drawing fire while the others VID the launchers and take them out CCIP. If this is how it has to be done I'd really like to put up a training mission for us to practice before I start the campaign. We would really need to figure out what is the best way to evade the missiles.

Have you tried lofting them in from low level?

If you have the SA17s as a precision stpt, you can run in at 50 ft in CCRP with the stpt selected (cursor zero first) and climb on the loft cue, release at around 4k and slice back and get outta dodge. This may give you enough stand off range. It works nicely on some SAM/AAA units but I've not tried it on SA17s. Might be worth a shot.

If this doesn't work I'll be happy to join you trying to figure it out. Should be online tonight :-)

Thanks SilverHawk. I finally got a good start to the campaign with intel on some of the air defense. I need 4 pilots to attack an SA6 and SA17 site. A few extra for escort would also be great.

When do you want to fly this Cyborg? I'm not available now during the week and possibly only one day during the weekend.

Also, did you have any luck against SA17s? Did you try it in a TE?
