After Action Report: IL-2 GuadalCanal
On the a.m. mission, the U.S. Strike force was to attack a Japanese Shipping convoy with Destroyer Escort.
The convoy was protected by at least 20+ Japanese Zeroes, launched from an unknown location. However, the
Japanese pilots did not observe the U.S. strike force and were reported to have flown off toward an area G-12, on
the northwest corner of Florida Island.
A re-fly of the mission was ordered, with Laser, Lurch and Sniper in TBM Avengers. The three amigos dropkicked
and changed course for area G-12.
At G-12, they located the Japanese carrier, escorted by destroyers. The TBM's immediately attacked. One of the
TBM's launched a torpedo at the Lead Destroyer, stopping it dead in the water. Within seconds, all three TBM's were
shot down. BUT, The Japanese carrier, which was behind the sinking Destroyer, caught up and rammed the
Destroyer, stopping the Carrier in it's tracks. Within a few minutes, a second Destroyer, behind the Carrier, caught
up and rammed the sinking Carrier. Thus all three ships were sunk.
In the meantime, all 21 Japanese Zeroes, which were returning to their Carrier, learned of it's demise and all 21
aircraft ditched in the ocean and sank.
All tolled;
2 Destroyers
1 Carrier
21 Aircraft
Destroyed by 1 Torpedo.
Lurch Out
(Note: I reposted Lurch's IL-2 AAR as I accidentally deleted it -Laser)
